Powering the WR400
Primary Power (AC Adapter)
- Plug the included adapter into the DC jack on the back of the radio.
- Plug the other end into a standard wall outlet.
Backup Power (Battery)
- Insert 4 AA alkaline batteries into the compartment underneath the radio.
- These maintain clock, memory, and alert function during outages.
🔋 Note: Only use alkaline batteries. Remove if storing the unit for long periods.

Quick Start Setup
- Plug in the AC adapter.
- Insert backup AA batteries.
- Extend the antenna.
- Follow on-screen prompts to set language, time, location, channel, and alert type.
Main Menu Options
Press MENU to access the following options:
1. Set Language
- Choose from English, Spanish, or French.
2. Set Time
- Use arrow keys to set hour/minute; press Select to confirm.
3. Set Alarm
- Set Alarm ON/OFF, then configure hour/minute.
- Press Weather/Snooze to snooze alarm (9-minute intervals).
4. Set Channel
- Use Up/Down to scroll through the 7 NOAA weather channels.
- Select the one with the clearest reception.
5. Set Location
- Choose SINGLE, MULTIPLE, or ANY:
- SINGLE: One SAME code
- MULTIPLE: Up to 25 SAME codes
- ANY: Receive alerts from all locations
- Find SAME codes at: weather.gov/nwr
6. Set Events (Customize Alerts)
- Enable or disable specific alerts.
- Default: All alerts ON.
7. Set Alert Type
Choose how the WR400 notifies you:
- Voice: 8-second tone followed by voice message
- Display: Text only
- Tone: 10-second audio tone only
- Siren: Loud siren until manually silenced
8. Set Backlight
- Choose HI, LO, or OFF.
Using the Radio
Listening to Weather Broadcasts
- Press Weather to hear the latest NOAA updates.
AM/FM Radio
- Press AM/FM button to toggle bands.
- Use Up/Down arrows to tune stations.
- Press Preset 1–6 to save favorite stations.
Volume Control
- Press Volume Up/Down buttons.
Color-Coded Alert Indicators
- Red (Warning) – Most severe, urgent action needed
- Orange (Watch) – Conditions favorable, be prepared
- Yellow (Advisory) – Less urgent, be aware
- Green – Power on, no current alert
Receiving Alerts
When an alert is received:
- The WR400 activates your chosen Alert Type
- The screen shows event name and location
- Color-coded LED illuminates based on alert severity
To silence an active alert:
- Press any button
Alert Volume & Test
- To adjust siren volume, go to Set Alert Volume in the menu.
- To test the alert siren, go to Test under Menu.
USB Device Charging
- Plug your phone or USB-powered device into the USB port on the back.
- Must be connected to wall power (USB port doesn’t work on battery power).
External Jacks
- Antenna Jack: For optional external antenna (not included)
- Alert Jack: Connect to strobe lights or bed shakers for accessibility
- Headphone Jack: Use for private listening (standard 3.5mm plug)
Resetting the Radio
If needed:
- Go to Reset in the menu to restore factory defaults
