The MXT115 operates on GMRS frequencies, which require a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) license to operate channels 1–7, 15–22, and repeater channels 15–22. Apply for a license at fcc.gov or call 1-888-CALL FCC.
RF Exposure
To comply with RF safety:

Maintain a 26.37 inch (67 cm) distance from the antenna while transmitting.

Installing Your Radio
Preparation

Confirm your vehicle uses a 12V negative ground system.

Disconnect the negative battery cable before installation.

Choose a safe, visible, and accessible mounting location.

Avoid drilling into areas with hidden wires or systems.
Mounting the Radio

Use the mounting bracket to mark screw hole positions.

Secure the bracket using the supplied screws.

Slide the radio into the bracket, ensuring it locks in place.
About Range
Your MXT115 is designed to give you maximum operating range under optimum conditions:
"Optimum condition" examples for maximum operating range are:
- Over water
- In open rural areas without obstructions
- On flat areas where you can see the other radio user
To ensure you get maximum range:
- Be sure to mount the antenna as high as possible on your vehicle
- Be sure to set your radio to use High power
Installing the Antenna

Mount the antenna on a clean, flat, metal surface as high as possible.

Avoid fiberglass or vinyl-covered surfaces.
-
Route the antenna cable (19.7 ft) through an entry point like a trunk or door gap.

Keep it away from engine noise and electrical components.
Electrical and Rear Panel Connections

Use the included power cord with cigarette lighter adapter or hardwire:

Red wire to +12V (fuse block or battery)

Black wire to vehicle chassis ground

Connect the antenna to the ANT jack

Optional: connect an 8-ohm, 4W minimum external speaker
Connecting the Microphone
Plug the RJ11 mic connector into the front panel. Mount the microphone bracket on the dash or nearby surface.

Operating Your Radio
Power On/Off

Turn volume knob clockwise to power on (startup tone plays).

Turn counterclockwise to power off.
Selecting Channels

Use the mic Channel Up/Down buttons.

Repeater channels are labeled with "RP" (e.g., 15RP, 16RP).
Volume Adjustment

Turn volume knob to adjust audio level.
Transmitting and Receiving

PTT (Push-To-Talk) on mic to transmit.

Release to listen.
-
Maintain 2–3 inches between mic and mouth for clarity.
Utility Functions
Keypad Lock

Hold Call/Lock button (3 seconds) to toggle lock.

Locked: only PTT and volume are active.
Monitor Mode

Hold Monitor/Scan button to check channel activity.

Use this mode to adjust volume when not receiving signals.
Auto Channel Scan

Press Monitor/Scan button to enter scan mode.
-
Pauses on active channels; press PTT to talk.
-
Press Monitor/Scan again to exit.
NOAA Weather Radio
Weather Scan

Press Weather button to scan 10 NOAA channels.

Locks onto strongest channel.

Use Channel Up/Down to rescan.

Press Monitor/Scan to stop scan and lock a channel.

Press PTT to exit.
Manual Weather Channel Selection

Enter Weather Mode → press Monitor/Scan to stop scanning.

Use mic to choose a specific channel.
Enable Weather Alert

While in Weather Mode, press Monitor/Scan to stop scan.

Select a channel → Hold Weather button to activate alert (flashing weather icon).

To return to GMRS mode, press PTT.
