Before You Start
- Tools you may need: Phillips screwdriver, drill (optional), wire stripper, and a clean mounting surface.
- The included cable length is 6.5 ft, so pick a location that allows it to comfortably reach your radio.
1. Choose a Mounting Location
Pick a spot in your vehicle where the speaker will be easy to hear and won’t interfere with electronics or safety systems.
Good Places
- Near the passenger-side footwell
- Under the dash
- On a sturdy console panel
Avoid These Areas
- Direct sunlight or very hot surfaces
- Air vents (heating or A/C)
- Any airbag deployment zone
- Thin or weak surfaces that won’t support the 2.3 lb speaker
2. Mount the Speaker Bracket
- Hold the bracket against your chosen surface.
- Use 2–4 supplied tapping screws to secure it.
- If installing on a thin panel, use the included flat speed nuts behind the panel for extra strength.
3. Attach the Speaker
- Place the speaker onto the bracket.
- Use the two mounting knobs to secure it.
- Pivot/tilt the speaker to your preferred angle.
- Tighten the knobs.
4. Route the Audio Cable
- Take the cable coming from the speaker.
- Route it cleanly to the rear of your radio (avoid sharp edges and moving pedals).
- Plug the 3.5mm mono connector into your radio’s external speaker jack.
Note for MXT275 or MXT575
Make sure the base speaker is enabled in the radio menu; otherwise the external speaker may not work.
5. Choose Your Power Method
Option A — Plug Into a 12V DC Port (Simplest)
- Plug the supplied SPK200 power cable into a 12V accessory/cigarette port.
- Done! This is the quickest way to power the speaker.
Option B — Hardwire Using the Included Splice Block
This powers the speaker directly from your radio’s power cord.
Note: Disconnect your vehicle battery before wiring.
Step-by-Step:
- Disconnect vehicle battery.
- Locate the positive and negative wires on your radio’s power cord.
- Strip 0.4 inches off the ends of each wire you plan to connect.
- Open the splice block levers to the upright position.
- Insert wires:
- The power coming from the vehicle goes into the 2-IN side.
- The radio’s power wires and the SPK200 power wires go to the 4-OUT side.
- Match positive to positive, negative to negative.
- Close the levers to secure the wires.
- Reconnect battery.
Fuse Requirements
- SPK200 requires 2A – 5A fuse protection.
- If your radio’s existing fuse is 5A, you do NOT need the extra inline fuse.
- If your radio uses a fuse larger than 5A (40W–50W radios), you must use the SPK200’s included 5A inline fuse.
6. Power Management Notes
- You can connect to a switched circuit if you want the speaker to turn off with the ignition.
- If no audio is detected for 30 minutes, the SPK200 automatically enters low-power mode to protect your battery.
7. Test Your Installation
- Turn on your radio.
- Use the monitor function on the radio to generate noise for testing.
- Listen for clear, amplified audio through the SPK200.
