- KEY LOCK ICON - Indicates KEY LOCK mode is on
- VOX ICON - indicates when VOX mode is active
- NOAA WEATHER (WX) BAND ICON - Indicates when the radio is in Weather Band mode
- CHANNEL NUMBER - Changes from 1-36 on FRS band (1-10 on WX band)
- PRIVACY CODE - Indicates Privacy Code selected by user (oF-38/oF-83). It can only be set in Ch 1-22

Battery Installation
Use either a Midland NiMH battery pack or 3 AAA alkaline batteries.
Remove belt clip and battery cover, insert batteries with correct polarity, replace cover, then reattach belt clip.
For long-term storage, remove batteries.
Charging
Initial charge: 24 hours, then 12 hours for recharges.
Use Midland NiMH battery pack and approved AC adapter.
Do not charge alkaline batteries.
Battery Level Indicator
3 bars = full, fewer bars = low battery.
Flashing icon = recharge or replace batteries.
Power On/Off & Volume
Rotate knob to turn on and adjust volume.
Radio beeps twice and displays all icons briefly at power-up.
Basic Operation
To Talk: Hold PTT, speak normally 2–3 inches from mic. Release to listen.
To Receive: Release PTT. RX icon shows when receiving.
Range Tips
Maximum range occurs:
Over open water
In flat, unobstructed areas
When using fully charged batteries and high power
Key Functions
Monitor: Hold Monitor 3 seconds to hear static, release to exit.
Scan: Press Scan to sweep channels. Stops for 4 seconds on active channels.
Call Alert: Press Call to send a tone to others.
Keypad Lock: Hold Lock 4 seconds to prevent setting changes.
Menu Settings
Channel Select: Menu → choose 1–36
Privacy Codes: Menu twice → choose CTCSS (oF–38) or Menu again → choose DCS (oF–83). Available only on Channels 1–22.
Power Level: Menu until “Pr” → choose H/L (Channels 1–7, 15–36 only).
VOX: Menu until “VOX” → choose oF/1/2/3.
Roger Beep: Menu until “rb” → choose on/oF.
Call Alert: Menu until “CA” → choose 1–5.
Silent Operation: Menu until “bP” → choose on/oF.
NOAA Weather Radio
WX Scan: Hold Up/WX 5 seconds to scan 10 NOAA channels.
WX Manual: Menu in WX mode to select channel.
WX Alert: Menu twice in WX mode → choose on/oF to enable alerts for severe weather.
External Accessories
Use optional speaker/mic or headset via external jack.
Can charge battery pack via CHG jack with optional charger.
Troubleshooting
No Power: Check batteries.
No Reception: Confirm same channel/privacy code, check range, avoid obstructions.
Buttons Not Responding: Ensure keypad lock is off.
Dim Display: Recharge or replace batteries.
Charger Not Working: Clean contacts, check outlet, confirm battery pack is installed properly.
Use & Care
Wipe with a damp cloth; no alcohol or solvents.
Do not immerse in water.
Store with batteries removed if unused for long periods.
