FCC Notice

The MXR10 operates on GMRS frequencies that require a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) license.

Licensing Requirements:

  • Serious penalties may apply for unlicensed operation.
  • You will receive a call sign from the FCC that must be used for station identification when using the repeater.
  • Always operate with proper etiquette to avoid interference and minimize transmission time.

To apply for a license:

  • Visit fcc.gov or call 1-888-CALL FCC.

Radio Frequency Exposure

The MXR10 complies with national and international RF exposure guidelines:

  • Minimum safe distance: 50 inches (127 cm) from the antenna when the repeater is operating.
  • Maximum antenna gain: 8.1 dBi.

Installing Your Radio

Power Options

  • 120 VAC via included AC power adapter.
  • 12 VDC via included DC power adapter.

Recommended Installation Environment

  • Clean, dry, and shaded from direct sunlight.
  • Accessible for power connection and antenna cabling.

Installation Tips:

  • Read all instructions before starting.
  • Ensure all required tools, parts, and materials are ready.

Installing an Antenna

  • The MXR10 requires an external 50Ω antenna mounted to a permanent outdoor structure.

Antenna Setup Guidelines:

  1. Mount as high as possible to reduce signal obstructions.
  2. Keep the antenna cable short to minimize signal loss.
  3. Ensure the metal ferrule at the antenna base extends above the mounting mast.
  4. Secure the antenna with at least two clamps.
  5. Install lightning arrestors and proper grounding for the antenna and mast.
  6. If the antenna structure exceeds 20 ft near an airport or 200 ft in any location, review FCC/FAA regulations (47 CFR Part 17).

Connecting Repeater Cables

Refer to the Port Connections Diagram for connector locations.

  1. Connect the antenna cable to the SO239 ANT port.
  2. Connect AC or DC adapter to the 4-pin POWER port.
  3. Connect the AC adapter to a 120V AC outlet or connect the DC adapter to a 12V DC power source.
  4. The repeater powers on automatically when power is applied.
  5. (Optional) Connect a speaker microphone to the 9-pin MIC port.
  6. For programming, connect the PC programming cable to the 4-pin POWER port.
    • Disconnect the speaker microphone during programming.

Controls and Indicators

Operation Controls 

Your Midland GMRS repeater is designed to comply with national and international standards and guidelines regarding exposure of human beings to radio frequency electromagnetic energy.

Volume Control

  • Short press ▲: Increase volume.
  • Short press ▼: Decrease volume.

Channel Selection

  • Long press ▲: Advance to next channel.
  • Long press ▼: Return to previous channel.

View Privacy Codes

  • Short press ▲ and ▼ together to view current CTCSS/DCS settings.

Keypad Lock

  • Long press ▲ and ▼ together to toggle keypad lock.

LCD Screen

Displays channel, CTCSS/DCS settings, volume, and lock status.

Operating Your Repeater

  • The repeater turns on automatically when power is supplied.

Channel Selection

  • Channels 1–8: Wide Band, High Power (default).
  • Channels 9–16: Narrow Band, High Power (default).

Further customization (privacy tones, squelch, power level, delay time) is available via PC software.

Care and Maintenance

  • Clean using a water-moistened soft cloth.
  • Do not use alcohol, solvents, or immerse the repeater in water.
  • Dry immediately with a lint-free cloth if wet.
