FAQs:
Q: What does Universal Intercom mean?
A: Universal intercom means the Midland BT Intercom systems can be paired and communicate with other brands' intercom systems.
Q. Will my BT Intercom pair with other Bluetooth intercoms for communication?
A: Yes - the BT Mini will allow for 1-to-1 communication; the BTR1 Advanced will pair with up to 3 additional intercoms. However, in order to conference with more than one other rider, all the devices must be Midland.
The BT Mini allows for a total of 2 people who can communicate at one time. The BTR1 Advanced allows for a total of 4 - you plus three other riders.
Q: How do I engage my phone to make a call?
A: For Android devices, you would use the "ok Google" command to engage Google Assistant. For Apple devices, you will use the "hey Siri" command to engage Siri.
Q: What is the app I need to use to manage and customize my intercom?
A: The app is called Midland Connect and can be found in either the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.
Q: Can I adjust the volume on my phone, or do I have to use the Intercom device to adjust volume?
A: Users can turn down the volume on the intercom, using their phone. It should be noted though, that once the phone volume reaches about 30%, the music will be nearly muted. That said, the intercom allows you to easily adjust the volume up or down, without having to use your phone. This is a safety feature to help reduce distractions on the road.
Q: Will my BT Intercom still work in the rain, or if it's splashed by mud?
A: Yes! The BTR1 Advanced is IPX6 Waterproof rated, with nanocoating. The BT Mini is rated with the IPX6 waterproof rating. IPX6 specifically means that the device is protected against water with the power of jets. It's important to note that this rating does not mean the device is submersible, but it can withstand heavy splashing or spraying of water. Nanocoating means the device has been treated with a nanoscale coating to provide an even higher level of water resistance.
Q: How long will it take to charge my intercom?
A: The BTR1 Advanced will take up to 4 hours for a full charge; the BT Mini should be fully charged in 2-2 1/2 hours.
Q: What does the Midland warranty cover?
A: Midland will repair or replace, at its option without charge, any BTR1 or BT Mini intercom or accessory that fails due to a defect in material or workmanship during the warranty period. The warranty period begins from the date of your purchase from Midland or one of Midland's authorized resellers and lasts for 2 years with respect to the main unit and 6 months with respect to any accessories.
Q: I'm having trouble getting the unit paired with my phone. What can I do?
A: To carry out any pairings you will need to access the Intercom's Settings function. To do this, the device must be off to begin. When you have confirmed it is off, press the main Control button for 7 seconds. You will hear a beep, the blue light will flash and you should hear static. At that point, press the Volume Up button for 3 seconds. There will be another beep, and the blue / red lights should flash together. Once that happens, access the Settings --> Bluetooth on your phone and select the BT device. There will be another beep and then a confirmation announcement.
Q: What if I have a second helmet I want to use my existing BT intercom with?
A: You can purchase a second mounting kit - the C1550
Q: How difficult is it to install the kit inside my helmet?
A: We recommend watching the installation video tutorial a few times before you start. Working slowly and carefully the first time will help ensure minimal disturbance to your helmet and proper placement of the speakers and the mic.
Q: Where do I put the speaker? Where do I put the unit itself?
A: Within the helmet, under the lining or cheek pad, there should be a clear spot for the speakers. Best practice is to put your helmet on, mark with your finger where your ear is and then remove and install in that spot. Leave the vinyl backing on the speaker until you are certain you have determined the correct spot. The BT unit should be installed on the left side of your helmet, for ideal safety and ability to use it while riding, opposite your throttle hand.
Q: How do I switch between my music and using the phone or intercom?
A: Once you complete a phone call, a single click on the main control button will resume music; double click the same button after using the intercom functionality.
