Midland rechargeable battery packs are designed with a protective shrink wrap that is an important part of the battery—not just packaging. You may notice the shrink wrap is clearly labeled with a warning: “Do not remove plastic covering from battery pack.”
Here’s why it’s important to leave the battery pack sealed:
Safety First
The shrink wrap insulates the battery cells. Removing it can expose the cells, which increases the risk of short circuits, overheating, fire, or chemical leaks.
Exposed wires or contacts can spark if they touch metal objects like coins or keys, creating a shock or burn hazard.
Protecting Battery Integrity
The wrap keeps the individual cells securely in place. Without it, the cells can shift or touch each other, leading to battery failure.
It also protects the cells from dust, dirt, and moisture, which can cause corrosion or damage.
Ensuring Performance
The sealed design ensures the battery pack fits properly in your radio. If unwrapped, the pack may no longer seat correctly, causing loose connections or unreliable power.
Unwrapping can shorten the battery’s lifespan and prevent it from charging or holding power correctly.
Warranty and Compliance
Tampering with the battery pack, including unwrapping it, voids the warranty.
Battery packs are safety-tested and certified in their original sealed form. Removing the wrap removes those safeguards.
Important: Never attempt to unwrap or alter your Midland rechargeable battery pack. The shrink wrap is part of its safety and performance design. Always use the battery exactly as it is provided.
